The world as I know it is filled with phenomena, both tangible and intangible. a fully functioning human being interacts with both kinds, and weaves them together. In today's world, a lot of humans are disconnected from the abilities they have to interact consciously with the subtle, intangible phenomena. Building an altar to represent and honor the "other side" is a way to use what is known and familiar (tangible) to interact with what is unknown and unfamiliar (intangible).

Altar building is a creative process. When you complete it, you will see a manifestation of something previously intangible. The altar becomes a bridge to the subtle realm.

I am a novice altar builder.

Not having any truly "witchy" tendencies, I wasn't really drawn to them early in my awakening.

I began my altar practice during my first year with the Sophia Code mystery school. As part of the foundational curriculum, we were asked to build altars for each of the 8 keycode mentors featured in the text.

As I was beginning my altar practice, I felt a familiar anxiety that I associate with artistic expression and creativity. When I set out to create something from my heart, using creativity and intuition, I get a flood of thoughts about how I'm under- resourced, how I can't see the path from start to finish, and how "nothing good will come out of this". I still get that feeling when building altars today, though now I've been through enough repetitions of the creative process to feel more ease and trust at the start. Committing to a short, daily creative practice for 21 days allowed me to unlock these 5 pearls of wisdom I shared on Medium.com https://medium.com/@chelsie.sullivan/fresh-wisdom-from-a-terrified-artist-4fab236b92be

Each altar I built to the keycode mentors of The Sophia Code felt alive, especially at the start. If I failed to tend them, they would grow stale and rigid, but still with a sparkle underneath. For this reason, I almost always have fresh flowers on my active altar. Flowers are bursting with life, color, and fragrance, and they give clear signals when that is no longer the case. The altar holds a special energy in form for you, while you're not able to abide in it. For this reason, I like to have crystals on my altar.

After my morning routine concludes, my energy joins the flow of the day. This flow can sometimes take me far away from the intention I set at the day's start. Sometimes I will walk past my altar and its brilliance will jolt me back into the morning's energy. Other times, I may become aware that I need to revisit my morning intention, and I can conjure an image of the altar in my mind to support me. Other times, the mentors or bands of consciousness that I am inviting into my life through my altar will fill my energy field, and an image of the altar will appear.
